Southern style small bites and tea
My husband and I both grew up near Chicago, Illinois so when his army assignment took us to Augusta, Georgia it was a big change for us! We experienced new foods and culture in Georgia, which led us to host a themed party after our son’s baptism which was “tea time” with heavy appetizers and beverages.
The full spread of savory options are pictured below. We wanted a mix of proteins such as shrimp and chicken sausage, as well as, some fillers like polenta cakes and scones. On the other side of the table are some kid friendly dishes like cheese bites and cauliflower tator tots.
The parmesan, rosemary + bacon scones were loved by many.
The savory treats were a hit but save the best for last- the dessert! The lemon blueberry cakes and cupcakes with cream cheese frostcake are light and refreshing in the summertime. I first made a naked cake for Cashel’s birthday in May, and have been hooked ever since.
The other dessert was a labor of love… alfajores with olive oil dulce de leche. First we made the cookies, next created the olive oil dulce de lech filling in between cookies, and lastly dipped the sandwich cookie in dark chocolate with a sprinkle of sea salt. The good news about this dessert is you can make it a couple of weeks ahead of time and freeze it!
Last but not least the TEA of the tea party. We had black peach iced tea- as you know Georiga is the peach state to the flavor was picked to honor that tea. We also displayed flowering tea, had herbal tea for non-caffiene drinkers and last but not least sparkling wine and waters.
