Herb Stand Makeover: Quarantine Project
2020 has been an unconventional year for us and the whole world with the emergence of COVID-19. We moved to Nashville, Tennessee a year ago for my husband’s final army assignment, and due to COVID-19 we’ve been at home a lot so we started some house projects!
One quarantine project we had was to re-purpose a basic wood herb stand into something more unique. We had this herb stand for a couple of years and we primarily bought it because we’ve lived in small houses with small backyard spaces. This vertical stand is a space saver since you can stack plants on top of each other.
Our son Cashel helped with this project too and put his hair up in a man-bun when he worked up a sweat!
Here’s a picture of the original stand:
First step was to stain it a dark brown.
Next we painted it with a white chalkpaint
After the chalk paint layer, we chipped away some of the paint with a sanding tool to make the stand look more rustic.
Next, found the cutest golden herb name plates from a boutique in New York City, called Ariana Ost and nailed them into the panels.
One of our favorite touches is using Cashel’s handprints on the top of the herbstand in the paint. A great memory with him, right before his 2nd birthday.
This project took a few weeks but we’ve loved using the fresh herbs from this stand for our dinne parties. We love the smell of the fresh rose bush right next to the herb stand. And all three of us agree there is no better smell than fresh basil! Fresh ingredients certainly make for the best meals.
